Turkish Film Festival
Turkish Embassy in Valletta in collaboration with the Embassy Cinemas in Valletta is pleased to present the Turkish Film Festival to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Maltese-Turkish diplomatic relations on 8-12 November 2017.
Turkish Film Festival will comprise of five remarkable films that left a mark on the last fifteen years of Turkish cinema. Yumurta (Egg) is the last film of chronological tierce which completes other two films Bal (Honey) and Süt (Milk). The director, Semih Kaplanoğlu, however decided to shoot Yumurta as the first film in order to explain the elapsing of the time heavily and painfully.
Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever (Love Likes Coincidences) is one of most beloved films that had shaken Turkish cinema in 2011 with its colourful and tragic story. Ömer Faruk Sorak, the director, crowned his successful career with this emotional film, a variety that appeals to Turkish movie lovers.
Bir Zamanlar Anadolu’da (Once Upon a Time in Anatolia) is a drama type of film by Nuri Bilge Ceylan that was nominated for Golden Palm Prize at Cannes Film Festival in 2011 and won the The Grand Prize. It was also nominated as the Best Movie in Foreign Language for Oscar prize. It received many other prizes at various international film festivals.
Hokkabaz (The Magician) is the first film that was written, featured and directed by Cem Yılmaz, who has become a prominent comedian and actor in Turkey in last twenty years. As in most of his films Cem Yılmaz tries to amuse the audience while giving a social message.
The Yozgat Blues by Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun is both a comedy and drama which focuses on the story of a musician who strives to upgrade his career at a night-club in the small province of Yozgat. The film received many prizes both at national and international aura.
